About Scratchings

Late scratchings (marked in red) occur within 2 hours of race time and may affect your bets.

If your selection is scratched, check with your bookmaker about refunds and deduction rules for exotic bets.

Scratchings FAQ

What is a late scratching?

A late scratching is when a horse or greyhound is withdrawn from a race close to the scheduled start time, usually within 2 hours of the race. This differs from early scratchings which occur the day before.

Why do horses get scratched?

Common reasons include veterinary advice (illness or injury), unsuitable track conditions, trainer's decision to save the horse for a better opportunity, or failing pre-race veterinary inspections.

What happens to my bet if my horse is scratched?

If your horse is scratched, you receive a full refund for win bets. For exotic bets (trifecta, exacta), the scratched horse is removed and odds may be adjusted via a deduction formula.

How often are scratchings updated?

Our scratchings page is updated every minute with live data from all Australian racing venues. Late scratchings are highlighted in red as soon as they're announced.

Late scratchings can significantly impact your betting strategy, especially for exotic bets like trifectas, exactas, and quaddies. We highlight late scratchings (those announced within 2 hours of race time) in red so you can quickly identify which races are affected.

Each scratching includes the reason for withdrawal when available, helping you understand whether it's due to veterinary advice, track conditions, or trainer preference. This information can be valuable for future betting decisions on that runner.
