Renovated in 2013 with the striking curved grandstand 'The Stand', Randwick hosts the April and October championships as well as the Doncaster Mile, Queen Elizabeth Stakes and Sydney Cup. The downhill run into the straight is a signature feature, and on soft tracks leaders can be hard to run down β track bias is a live consideration for punters on wet days.
Full Royal Randwick track guideThe Everest is run over 1200 metres at Royal Randwick in mid-October, on the same card as other major spring features. Twelve slot holders each select a runner, making it a unique entry model in world racing.
The 1200-metre start at Randwick is just before the home turn, so inside barriers (1β4) historically hold a slight advantage, particularly when the rail is out. However, the long straight allows wide runners with early speed to cross without spending too much energy.
Randwick is raced clockwise, like all NSW metropolitan tracks β the opposite direction to Melbourne's anti-clockwise circuits.
