About Sha Tin
Sha Tin is the headquarters of Hong Kong racing and one of the most famous racecourses in the world. Set in the New Territories with the Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery watching over the home turn, the turf course runs clockwise β the opposite direction to Australia β over 1899 metres, with a 380-metre straight and the famous Sha Tin 'V' shape that can funnel leaders along the inside rail.
The course stages Hong Kong's two greatest racedays: the Hong Kong International Races in December, featuring the HK$36 million Hong Kong Cup, and the BMW Hong Kong Derby in March. Saturday afternoon meetings at Sha Tin regularly handle turnover that dwarfs most Australian metro cards, and the world's best jockeys and trainers β John Size, Tony Cruz, Zac Purton β make it the sport's most competitive circuit. For Australian punters, Sha Tin racing is perfectly timed: the afternoon card unfolds in the early evening AEST.
