About Flemington
Flemington is the most famous racecourse in Australia and the home of the Melbourne Cup. Operated by the Victoria Racing Club, its sprawling 2312-metre pear-shaped oval — with the unique 'straight six' chute of 1200 metres — gives every runner a genuine chance, which is why handicappers and punters alike treat Cup Day form with such respect.
The course features six metres of cambered banking around the turn onto the straight, favouring on-pace runners in big fields, while the long 450-metre straight rewards genuine stayers who can sustain a run. The famous Flemington roses, the hill enclosure and the 2003-built grandstand make it the spiritual home of Australian racing, hosting around 25 meeting days a year headlined by the four-day Melbourne Cup carnival in November.
