About Wellington
Wellington Race Club, on the Bell River in the Central West, is famous for one of country racing's most cherished trophies: the Wellington Boot, run each March and fiercely contested by the region's bush stables. The club also stages a popular summer cup meeting, giving Wellington two of the friendliest racedays on the central-west calendar.
The Wellington track is honest country racing at its best β the same horses meet each other through the Dubbo, Narromine, Gilgandra and Mudgee programs, so the form lines are deep and reliable. The Boot in particular rewards the region's hard-knocking stayers, and winning it still means as much to central-west trainers as a metro black-type placing.
